There is a new TV series on called Chasing UFOs. It's the usual stuff, with investigators wearing mini-cameras strapped to them and they go out and investigate alleged UFO vids.
This past week's episode was sort of interesting only because it involved Roswell. I spent many months living near the crash site, well on the other side of the Capitan mountains anyway, about 60 miles from Roswell up in the hills. This was back in the early 90s. I had never heard of the Roswell before one dark and stormy night...
Me and a group of locals were at the restaurant in town, after-hours. The owner of the restaurant was drinking heavily, something we've never seen him do. He seemed very agitated and late into the evening when our group was but a few key persons, he (Glenn) sat us around and told us his story...of how he was working at the Roswell funeral home at the time and was called out to bring three child-sized caskets to the alleged crash site. He went on to tell us that he's never told anyone before because he was afraid. He was telling us now because he had received a phone call from the military- after 40+ years, out of the blue. They wanted to talk to him. He figured he'd tell us because if he should "disappear" or get killed in a car "accident" he wanted us to know that there might be foul play involved. He had previously been contacted by UFOlogists or writers of alien books, and had declined any interviews.
I honestly believed him. He was very upset and not to put too fine a point on it- scared out of his wits. We all agreed that he should go public with his story. After that, he started giving interviews and was even on several TV shows. Many years later he went on to become director of the Roswell Alien museum. Last I heard, he was very ill and is probably gone now.
Anyway, there have always been conspiracy theories brandished about concerning the military and UFOs. Keep in mind that Alamagordo, White Sands Missile Base and other military installations are all within the general area of Roswell, New Mexico. When one drives at night, one can see all sorts of lights in the mountains from antennae or radar thingees- the sort of things one cannot see during the day. There is also a lot of military aircraft in the area and one of the roads that cut through the small town I was staying at is used for military deployment. It was not unusual to see army vehicles all the time.
Getting back to the TV show- they did one on Roswell. They went out to the alleged crash site with metal detectors. One of the items they found was a button- a US Air Force button buried in the dirt. Upon researching the item, it was contemporary with the date of the crash and verified that someone who was in the Air Force had been out there. I found that to be compelling only because the crash site is on a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere.
Is that circumstantial evidence for aliens or a UFO crash? Not in and of itself, but it is interesting that such a button was found, lending a bit of credence to the fact that someone from the military was there at that time.
Anyway, just wanted to share this with you. I'm still on the fence in terms of UFOs as being from another galaxy or something like that. But they are "unidentified" aircraft. Who knows what our government is doing? It could be top secret aircraft. I'm sure that's what is happening out at Groom Lake (Area 51).
I have never seen what I believe to be a UFO. I've seen satellites and such whilst out in the desert, but nothing that was out of the ordinary. And if I did see something odd, I wouldn't know what it was.
